Mount Katahdin

The highest mountain in Maine at 5,267 feet (1,605 m), and named so by the Penobscot Indians, meaning “The Greatest Mountain”. The mountain consists of many peaks, with Baxter Peak being the tallest, and bookends the north end of the Appalachian Trail. Baxter Park is the most popular area of the mountain and open all year but its use is strictly regulated during the winter months for safety. Camping is May 15 to October 15, with limits placed on day parking reduce use of the trails. All trails lead to the top and all are considered strenuous and suggested use by experienced hikers.

Stephen King’s House

Despite his fortune, Mr. King remains true to himself and lives in a house which may seem familiar for King fans, outside Bangore, Maine. Knowing Mr. Kings works, it puts a new face on this seemingly innocent and old home. The neighbourhood has a simple, quiet, middle-class feel about it, King’s house looks like a movie set.

Maine Desert

Visit the strangest scenes in the northeast – a desert in Maine. A potato farming location from the 1700s, a combination of farming neglect and misuse revealed a silt layer near the surface, the area was abandoned in the early 1900s, and what has become of it has been a curiosity ever since. Complete with dunes, a camel, a shop and museum.
